I am truly passionate about the subjects I teach and I desire to infect my students with such enthusiasm. In the classroom, I try my best to organise fun and interactive activities that allow students to engage with the subject material in a deep and meaningful manner. I also pride myself on being able to effectively 'chunk' complex skills and ideas so that they are accessible to all students. In addition, I have high expectations. I have worked with many students who have achieved a '7' in their IB exams, and some of them have gone on to study at elite institutions like Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard. I have genuinely been inspired by the success of these students and I subsequently want all the young people I work with to aim high and try to emulate this level of achievement. Not all students will get a '7', but, if we aim high, I am sure that we can make exceptional progress in a quick amount of time.
As a tutor, the way I plan my lessons is obviously different from how I teach in the classroom. Due to the 1-2-1 nature of online tutoring, I commit to tailoring bespoke curriculum for my individual students. For this to work, I believe that good communication between tutor, tutee and parents is key. Consequently, I encourage constant dialogue between all parties. More importantly, it is vital for the tutee to be active and make it clear exactly what they want to learn. I will thus plan my instruction accordingly. This will involve setting tasks for students to complete both before and after our scheduled meeting time. During our scheduled time together, I strive to facilitate active and continuous dialogue. Lessons will not consist of students working independently for long periods of time and me sitting there in silence! Moreover, I believe that in-depth feedback is a key ingredient for success. I therefore pledge to support students as much as I can with timely and detailed responses to their work.
